The discussion of AI is something that we can’t be ignoring these days. ChatGPT has been the center and focuses of attention since late last year, and continue to gain a lot of traction and buzz as business evaluate how they can incorporate their business processes to utilize and harness its power.  I’ve asked ChatGPT a couple of questions, and let’s review the answer together in this blog post.

Will AI replace lawyers?
We are working with lawyers at BMC Networks, and this has become a sensitive topic for some. I personally don’t think so, and there are many things that the legal profession still has an upper hand such as ethical decision-making and empathic efforts. Here is what ChatGPT said:

I would say that ChatGPT is rather accurate here. AI can replace repetitive administrative work, but it cannot replace decision-making, judgment in the client’s best interest, and emotional support.

Will AI replace accountants?
This is another question that comes up often. My sister is in the accounting profession, and her opinion is that AI can’t replace accountants, because rather than just basic bookkeeping, accountants required broader skill sets such as storytelling, people management, and professional judgment which AI can’t replace. She does mention that AI will come in handy to conduct research and provide use cases and examples to arrive at financial insights faster.

Here is what ChatGPT said:

I found it interesting that ChatGPT provided similar responses about Accountants and Lawyers since they are both required to exercise judgment and discretion following ethical standards and professional codes of conduct, and these are activities that AI cannot replace as of yet.

My last question to ChatGPT is about my own profession. With so many AI tools around, will I be able to keep my job this year?

Will AI replace IT professionals?
Here is what ChatGPT has to say about my profession.

My overall impression of this response is that I will still be able to keep my job here at BMC. AI will enhance and transform my ability to be more efficient, allow me to automate certain tasks that I am currently doing manually, and be ready to spend more time on things that only I as a human can do for my clients. The no-code development process would be interesting as well, it means that I only need to possess a fraction of complex software development skills to develop an application that can help us to achieve our goals faster.

As all these AI solutions are evolved, one thing for sure is that these systems are designed for humans to be more efficient to do more things with the same amount of time, and with greater accuracy. In general, the use of ChatGPT requires an acceptable use policy to be developed, and that is currently in development in all industries. the key considerations will involve defining the possible use cases for each business and also balancing the risks such as privacy, quality control, and contractual obligation.
